Light and Sound Control

Lumin+Nimbus

Lumin+Nimbus is an exercise to push the capabilities of a simple material like paper. Lumin perforated laser cut origami lamp. Cutting is efficient with only a few percent waste from edges around the cut material. Lumin changes the color of a room while highlighting the perforations, projecting them onto walls. The folding pattern gives each Lumin a distinct form that can be molded and changes over time.

Nimbus employs the same tessellation pattern in a layered cloud to control echoes in large or tall environments while adding aesthetic flair. Modules are grouped into stringers and hung from a grid, providing a multicolor canopy that is flexible to a wide variety of spaces.

Lasercut, modular, and flat packed lamps come in an endless variety of color and texture. The laser perforations allow for easy and precise folding (only a few minutes per lamp) and expose light though the edges, creating a unique pattern on room surfaces while bringing color to the space. Colors are easily switched out and metallic or clear plastic finishes can be used to increase reflectivity and usability. Many folding pattern types were experimented with to find the best form and prototype.
